Injury Prevention and Maintenance

Training for a race or big athletic event? Let’s get there safely.

Injury prevention begins with a discussion of your current training and what your goals are. We then evaluate your postural and movement patterns to identify any factors that may lead to injury during training. If running is a part of your goal, we will perform a comprehensive gait analysis to evaluate how your form may be negatively impacting your body. Overuse injuries tend to come from asymmetries in the body or less than optimal form. Together, we develop a plan to help you stay injury free and keep you doing what you love.

Prenatal and Postpartum Care

Pregnancy is a large adjustment for the human body. Certain aches and pains become normalized as part of the process, but they don’t have to be! After a comprehensive evaluation, we provide a plan of care that can help you..

  • Reduce pain during pregnancy

  • Optimize your pelvic alignment

  • Prepare to push

  • Modify current exercise routine

  • Maintain strength of abs and pelvic floor

Moving into the postpartum period, the normal 6-week check in from your doctor may not be enough if you want to return to a higher level of activity. Taking into consideration your birth process and prior level of function, we can help you return to exercise safely. This can involve..

  • A postural and movement assessment

  • Diastasis recti check

  • Pelvic floor assessment

  • Return to exercise program

Together, we will develop a plan to get you back to your specific exercise activity safely. Whether your goals are marathon training or returning to yoga, there are steps that you can take to avoid injury and stay healthy.

Pelvic Health

Your pelvic floor acts as a major stabilizer to your body, and plays a vital role in several everyday functions. It helps to control intra-abdominal pressure, bowel and bladder health, sexual function, and pelvic stability. Both men and women can experience pelvic floor dysfunction.

Common conditions we treat are..

  • Pain with sex

  • Sexual dysfunction

  • Hip or low back pain

  • Vulvodynia

  • Pain in penis, testicles or anus

  • Pain in perineum

  • Urinary urgency or incontinence

  • Fecal incontinence

  • Prolapse

  • Pelvic muscle dysfunction

We treat the pelvic floor as any other muscle in the body. It functions as a part of a system, so that is how we treat it! We begin with an orthopedic evaluation to assess for asymmetries or postural holding patterns. We then assess how the pelvic floor muscles respond in breathing and in function. Our goal is to optimize the alignment, coordination and function of the pelvic floor. We take into account your everyday activities  and athletic goals so we can help you return to doing what you love.

What to expect during your first session:

Getting to know you

We will take a detailed history to understand more about what you’re dealing with and what your goals for treatment are. This is your chance to tell us all about your current aches, pains, and anything else that has motivated you to come in to see us.

Postural and Movement Assessment

We want to understand more about how you move, what your postural tendencies are, and what may be key factors to manage during treatment.

In order to do this we need to see and feel how your body moves. This may require us to use our hands to assess parts of the body or observe you moving through some basic exercises.

We will also use this time to educate you on our findings along the way to help you better understand what is going on with your body.

CreatING a Plan

After taking in all of the information that you have provided us with, and pairing it with the findings from the assessment, we will develop a plan of action to help you reach your goals. You will walk away with an understanding of how to begin your PT journey.
